Is there a very good book on freshwater puffers? Or Carinotetraodons?

yes go to amazon.com type in aqualog and scroll till you find aqualog for pufferfish or something like that. i have a pufferfish book and it is on freshwater and brackish only. written by chris ralph and talks about the figure 8-tetraodon biocellatus, ocellated puffer-tetraodon cutcutia, fahaka-tetraodon lineatus, ceylon puffer-tetraodon fluviatilis, red eye puffer-carinotetraodon lorteti, mbu puffer-tetraodon mbu, congo puffer-tetraodon miurus, green spotted puffer-tetraodon nigroviridis, topaz puffer-tetraodon steindachmeri, dwarf puffer-carinotetraodon travancoricus, south american puffer-colomesus asellus. those are two good books.

I want a good book

I have this book:

Its very short but has a good deal of info on fresh/brackish puffers.

That is the same book i have and i also listed it above.

I have found that the book by Practical Fishkeeping is not so great. Thats just my opinion. Yes it did have a fair amount of info in it, but I believe that some of the info is a little incorrect. I mean... it calls F-8's, 'Figure of Eights' puffers... yea... about those figure of eight puffers I keep seein, lol. There are quite a few other things not right about that book, thats just one example as to why I give the Practical Fishkeeping book a thumbs down. I think the best sources for info on puffers at the moment are:

1. Aqualog: Puffers of Fresh and Brackish Waters (Book)
2. Current owner of whichever species you were looking at getting. (Experienced Owner, like 6+ months with multiple puffers alive and happy.) So basically, talking to people here on these forums.

I think, personally, this site has the best info all in one spot. That said, you can't take it with you to the store when shopping! So for a book, I like the Aqualog book because it has a ton of photos of all kinds of species. The info might be off on a few of them, but you can always check that ahead of time and put in a post it note with things like max size, type of water, etc. Then when you get to the store, you can use the book to get a positive ID on any puffers you find, because we all know the stores are 99% of the time wrong on their info. If you aren't 99% positive on the specs in the book, you can always put the fish on hold (well, most good stores do this) and come home and double check here before buying.

But if you're just at home wondering about a species, I'd come here before any book. A search of the forum or check in the pufferpedia will give you more info than you need most of the time.
