i am new to puffers i was just wondering if i could feed my arrowhead puffers and my fahaka bits of uncooked kalamari,and frozen silversides.i used to have saltwater fish,so i thought i would ask! i also have bloodworms and beefheart.

yeah no beefheart for reasons already discussed but calamari is ok though my puffer would only eat it soaked in Garlic. I think the rubbery texture put him off

That is just 'cause he has taste!

You can get Hikari frozen squid too. Though the only type I have seen is cubes and it is fine minced so works for smaller fish. It also has a tendency to float. Works for fish willing to come to the surface. My marine tank loves it and some of my freshies.

cool thanx 4 the replys again. ill stay away from the beef heart.one more question though about feeding live feeders.right now the only live food i have let them eat is the tiney rosey red minnows they sell at petsmart 4 like 12 cents a piece.they also have feeder goldfish,and red claw crabs?is their any thing like snails,mussels i could ask my local fish store to order for me that wont coast an arm and a leg? oh yes and my tiny fahaka is eating but very little,i feed him everyday once a day he nibbled the head off a couple of minnows a tiny bit of bloodworms and a tiny bit of beef heart when i 1st got him, the pignose puffers i got are bigger by an inch and fatter and tey put things down like they were starving.is it just a matter of finding what my fahaka likes? or do they just normally eat a little bit.he appears healthy and swims around alot and chaces my finger all the time,right now i nicknamed him penut.

I'd suggest if you must use feeder fish from the fish store, quarantine at least a month or so. Feeders are where parasites, diseases, etc come from, even a quarantine period won't be enough to help with parasites. Freezing kills most pathogens, so the frozen ones are alright, but puffers aren't really capable of catching much in the way of other fish outside of tanks, so it's not the healthiest thing for them anyway.
