Ive finally found the answer to a question that has been annoying me for SO long!

Why dont we ever see freshwater puffers in LFS's in Australia?

Because they are illegal! They are not on the list of allowable imports, not sure why.

Just thought I would post it for other people who might be trying to find the same answer.

Unfortunately the ecosystem has taken a devastating crush from the release of freshwater fish species in Australia. So to try to prevent any more damage they want to ensure no one is bringing in new species that could be potentially dumped into the streams and given the chance to do some injury to the area. It sucks because of a few peoples ignorance, a whole country suffers.

I was talking to a friend who's in Australia, and when I mentioned that I wanted puffers, he asked me why I'd want them. Apparently, they're considered pests in Australia, and he can find them in the rivers/lakes near him. Must be nice to get'm for free. ;)

Yes, but could you find a certain type of puffer that would match your tank specifications that's healthy and won't puff when you catch him? AND you have to adjust him to your tank. Good luck! :)
