between auriglobus modestus and auriglobus silus...

I have a modestus. If you need any help, contact me, or an expert Are you gonna get one, or just researching them?

I found this from a website:

It differs from C. modestus in attaining smaller adult size (largest specimen examined 82 mm vs. 106 mm); snout more strongly sloping; lips equally projecting, or lower lip variably protruding, frequently much more so than in C. modestus; scales anterior and ventral to pectoral fin with spines projecting dorsoposteriorly (Fig. 1c) rather than dorsally (Fig. 1b); and caudal peduncle relatively slender, its depth 7.2-8.2 (vs. 6.7-7.4). C. silus tends to have fewer dorsal-, anal-, and pectoral-fin rays than C. modestus (Table 2), but the counts are broadly overlapping and of little help in identifying individual specimens to species.

I think they're shinier too.

I agree... Silus is generally a more gold/yellow color, while modestus is more green/yellow green color.

...and silus is slimmer.

I didn't know that they were slimmer. Are you planning on buying one?

they are looking just the same as juveniles. as adults modestus are some cm bigger and silus are much slimmer. the citation up there is correct. but who could check that on living fish?
the silus is much more territorial and such much more aggressive as an adult. as juveniles you can easily keep mor of them in one tank. by the adult size that will become more and more difficult. sometimes it will be even impossible to keep even just two of them in 240 l. modestus are more or less calm. it is easier to keep more of them in a tank. they are often mixed in the pet-shops!
by the way: these are two different families: it is auriglobus modestus but chonerhinos silus.

Certainly no. They are from the same family: Tetraodontidae, also called puffers. You mean genera?

Kottelat explained in 1999 that naritus actually belongs to the genus Chonerhinos and that those puffers that were considered as Chonerhinos by Roberts in 1982 (among them silus) should now be in the new genus Auriglobus. Therefore Auriglobus silus appears to be the right name or am I missing imortant publications younger than 1999?

Kottelat explained in 1999 that naritus actually belongs to the genus Chonerhinos and that those puffers that were considered as Chonerhinos by Roberts in 1982 (among them silus) should now be in the new genus Auriglobus. Therefore Auriglobus silus appears to be the right name or am I missing imortant publications younger than 1999?
