Has anyone had their Puffer eat gravel. My Leuirus has. I wasn't sure a first, I have changed to sand now and have seen deposits of neat piles of gravel on the sand. Not the greatest pic but you get the idea.

Is it some thing to do with aiding digestion or just hunger.

THat is one freaky pic. I've seen sand picked up and filtered through the gills but never heard of gravel being swallowed in what looks like quite a large amount from that pic.

Really dont know whether it's digestion or hunger, I doubt it would be for digestive purposes, perhaps he just thought it was edible. At least it came out 1 end or the other.

aaagggghhhh that pic is freaky. I'm with Hilly on this, I've seen plenty of puffers sift gravel but not swallow it, maybe it help keep him sturdy on the bottom, like some diving brids that swallow grit to help them sink?

He has excreated it all now and is back to normal shape.

Shove him in a flowerpot in that pic and he looks like Adurey II from Little Shop of Horrors. "Feed Me Seymour, Feed me all night long!!!"

That is my favorite show ever! I was Seymour in 7th grade.

My GSP did the same thing, he ate a crush coral pebble and his stomach was looking weird... but he's fine after a day or 2. They probably do the same thing in the wild and their stomachs are made for that kind of stuff

I'd switch to sand that was more easily digested!
