i need help identifying this puffer

i jsut noticed after it started swimming. there is a distinctive round dot urrounded by smaller round do closeto its tail, didnt notice it before, but its distinct and definatley bigger than and set apart from the other dots. close to its tail

Nope, not a palembangensis. Looks like a turgidus to me.

I didn't think so either but half the pictures on the pufferpedia weren't working. Its better now.

Colour of it to me says M. Turgidus

I agree, turgidus:

Turgidus is what I would say as well. Going by the colors and that patch on the head.

Why wouldn't it be M. Cochinchinensis?

i am leaning towards turgidus

there is a distinct dot close to iits tail on both sides. definately not brown, its definately greenish base with rownish black ish spots.
the two pics posted thats not mine is definately something that i would say looks alike.

but why would someone sell it as a lorteti:S strange. here in nz, puffers are very rare. this one to my understanding is banned from importaion in new zealand i was told.

any other feedback or opninion?
turgidus is most liekly, but maybe someone out there knows another species for this thats close to it

I don't know, I'm not sure you can go on colour so much. Abei I think can be quite gray/brown in some instances, but i always thought Turgidus and Cochinchinensis were almost identical, bar the red dot with the green/blue ring round the outside. If that's not present, then I'd agree, turgidus.

Either way, an unblurred side on view is always going to be much easier to ID a target puffer with.
