Hello:

My LFS keeps their puffer tank around 1.008

They told me it was 1.005 when I called, but that they try to keep it at 1.008.
I am about to begin cycling a tank which I will maintain betweem 1.005 and 1.008.

Should I use the Marine BioSpira?

Thanks

I believe FW biospira works in tanks up to 1.01 sg...but would have to check the bottle..
I am some one else will confirm or refute that here soon

I can't remember the cut off, but I'm 99% sure for something as low as 1.005 or 1.008 you'd use the freshwater version. I know its on here somewhere...

Are you cycling the tank or using B-S? You don't need to do both. According to our correspondence with Marineland, we can use FW B-S up to 1.012 but I'd expect some die off.

Thanks, that is helpful. I will use the Freshwater BioSpira.

My intention was to cyclethe tank at set up with the addition of BioSpira, then house a couple mollies from another tank in the puffer tank for about a month - at that point I would introduce the puffer (GSP).

The tank would at the time of set up with BioSpira have a SG of 1.003, which I would bump up to about 1.008 over the 4 week molly period. The SG of 1.008 at puffer introduction is intended to match the SG of the tank in LFS.

Thanks,

Way more work & expense than necessary, IMO. Just do a fsihless cycle at the SG the fish are in at the store.

I used the FW version at ~1.010, and still had a short cycle, so I'm assuming I had some die-off.

I would assume that to be true, since folks have die off raising the SG more than .002/wk.
