Hi everyone! I recently bought two figure 8 puffers and I just adore them! I also have 5 dwarf puffers, in a different tank of course and I know I am suppose to fed them snails a couple times a week but I have no idea where to get them. Does anyone have a good website to buy them from or any recommendations? I bought the 8's yesterday and so far they love shrimp and blood worms, so they are eating well but I know I need the snails soon! Any help would be wonderful because I want these guys health and happy! Thanks

check out your lfs for ramshorn snails and setup a 5g or 10g tank for breeding them and feed snails only as big as the puffer eye

Thats gotta suck to have to order ramshorn snails, here I can get them from pretty much every lfs or local fish nut for next to nothing same with malaysian trumpet snails.

Stores around here tend to sell puffers. They use the snails so they don't have to feed the puffers and use the puffers s they don't have to deal with snail infestations.

I was pleseantly surprised two days ago to find a snail infestation in my ghost shrimp holding tank. I had put snails in there a long time ago and thought I had harvested all of them but I guess not.

If you want some snails and want to travel to the northern suburbs of Chicago, you can have my tank full. I got the originals from plants I purchased and free from one of the box stores. They're pond and ramshorn.

Due to some personal issues, I took my GSP back to Old Orchard Aquarium, but still have the snail tank set up.

Thanks to all of you for your replies, found a LFS that has them luckily.

Quick question.. Can Ramshorn snails live in brackish water? It appears whenever I add them my 8's love them but the ones they don't eat I think die. I was hoping they would live in there and the puffers could just eat them when they want but I don't think that is happening. Any help would be great!

When I picked up Frank (F8) from Rob, he said they often throw snails in there, and Frank leaves them alone unless they are the correct size, and they stay alive and grow.. I haven't seen that yet myself, as Frank has chowed down on every snail I've added to the tank so far!

When I tried keeping ramshorns in low end brackish with my red claw crab, they died.

Ok thanks for the replies. I think I'll just put a few snails in at a time so they can just eat them. I was hoping the snails would live well in the tank but I don't want to just see them die. Thanks again!
