Dwarf Puffer's?

How many can you put together? I have a 30 gallon tall, that is heavily planted and I am looking at getting some of these guys. What would be a good number in the tank? Thanks

We recommend 5 gallons each.

It will depend on what else you want in there with them, if anything. For example, if you add a bristlenose pleco to eat some algae, that will drop your number of puffers you could add. Same with otos.
If I was you, here's what I'd do. Go out and buy some red cherry shrimp and ramshorn or pond snails. Let them loose in the tank and let them breed away for a few weeks. Then I would add about 5-9 dwarf puffers and sit back and enjoy. The number of puffers you add would depend on the shape of the tank, amount of plantings, your water change schedules, etc. A tank with a lot of swimming room will allow a few more puffers, but something like a hex tank will limit you more. When you say heavily planted, if you mean like a jungle, they will love that and it will cut down on aggression and it gives them plenty of hunting. I used to watch mine for hours as they tracked down shrimp and snails. As far as water change schedule, we like to see people do 50% every week, if you can't do quite that much, don't buy as many fish, but try at the very least to do 20% each week.
