I have a 10g with a pair of irrubescos and a 10g with a pair of DP's. I am converting my 65 sw to fw to house a school of puffers. Which would be cooler, like 20 DPs or 4 SAPs?

I'd do DPs but not 20. The more you have, the more "space" they need IMO. I wouldn't get more than 12-15. But schools of DPs in large tanks are really cool.

Can I keep the aragonite sand or would regular gravel be better? What kind of substrate is in their natural habitat? Or could I just put the gravel on top of the sand?
Will plants grow in aragonite sand?

Ooo you know what might be cool, leaving the sand and the rocks in there and just switching the water to fresh, and adding plants.

I know aragonite can raise pH, but doesn't it buffer it also? So couldn't it be useful to maintain a steady, stable pH? I am thinking white substrate with stacked slabs of quartz for decoration. All white and glassy, with a stark black background, with green/red highlights (plants). It would be stunning.
