hello everybody, i am new on this forum. i have been keeping tropical fish on and off for a few years now. after a disaster in my small comunity tank i now have a spare 2 foot 60 litre aquarium. i have decided to keep a f8 puffer in it.

i am now cycling the tank using fishless cycling. my second fishless cycle now. my plans for the tank is basicly plastic and silk plants with a few rock caves and a sandy substrate. obvioudly the tank is over filtered.

i have started my research into this species and have been talking to rocker and another puffer keeper on another forum. all i need now is salt and a hydrometer also the puffer after my cycle.

so that's my freindly hello and my basic plans and past. hope it wasn't too hard to read.

i have made the mistake of not doing my homework before. and ended with dead and unsuitable fish for the conditions. since then i always research my tanks now.

Are you going to cycle it as freshwater or brackish?

i am cycling freshwater at the moment. i am going to the fish store tommorow to find out if he keeps the puffer in brackish or fresh water. if he keeps them in brackish will increase sg by 1.002 a week to be the same as fish store water.

Good plan, but if you've just started cycling the tank you could raise it all the way up and just start from your goal salinity. If its been going a few weeks already, the .002 a week is a good idea.

the puffer is going to come from freshwater, i found out today so i think i'll raise the salinity slowly.

Makes it easier for you, plus he'll have a bit of time to settle in before you start to raise the salinity.

i got my fish store to order my fig8 today so i should be able to pick him/her up next week. the cycle has finished already so i'm adding amonia to keep the bacteria alive untill i get my puffer.

hey guys, do any of you think i might be able to kepp bumble bee gobies in with my fig 8 or would it just cause problems.
