The yellow-headed Jawfish need deep substrates, coral rubble is best for their construction work, but my tank was mixed with crushed coral about 50:50. Six inches of coral rubble is not cheap in a large tank, but you can cheat and only have part of the footprint covered deeply. The males mouth-brood the eggs quite visibly. Mine did breed, but I did not raise any of the offspring - it was not a species tank, so the fry were consumed.

That could work, using part as a deep burrowers space. And rock in the rest. Still got lots of work, research and buying until I am ready.

I am a compulsive planner. I can and do spend ages planing and re-planing tanks... It is so much cheaper and simpler on paper than in reality. By the time I actually set up, it is already familiar. Then I only have to fine-tune the current. Then some of them do last indefinitely - the first FW planted plenum tank I set is still going. It is probably ~ 20 years old now, and was a big part of why I came onto the web, to research such set-ups.

Ok brief update. Stalled a while due to other commitments. Have 30 kg of marine sand yay! Now changed my mind again.... Sorry guys lol. I am purchasing a 4x2x2 with sump it seems. More questions to follow lol

I really like the 2x2' cross-section tanks - but in my old age I want access to both long sides - I have given up wet armpits.

Ok plan has changed again, the bowfront is gonna be my marine tank ( wife not impressed that I purchased new tank prior to changing mind but well happy this piece of furniature stays, I love this tank). Lighting now purchased, 4x 39w t5, 2 strip LEDs and one square mass power led thingy lol. I'm after thoughts on deltec (D&D) skimmers, especially the mce600 which I can get for under £300.

Is the deltec (or otherwise known d&d) skimmer mce 600 any good? I can return it if its poo, don't want to unbox it and run it if there's a better option. Kinda keen to get rolling now.

The mce 600 is a very good skimmer. I've read lots of reviews saying so. I've got the next one down (mce 300) and it's great. It pulls loads of muck out of the water.

Only got my phone for Internet access ATM pics will follow shortly. Tank filled and live rock in situe. Ammonia on the rise slightly from some of the live rock not being cured its at0.25 ppm. Added 30kg of cured live rock so I just sit and wait testing regularly? Hopefully getting another 30+ kg of cured live rock tomorrow which I assume may speed this process up for me a little

Yup, you got it. Time cures all live rock. The more cured rock which is present, the better/faster the cure. Think of it as keeping your pre-cured rock happy and well fed...
