Re: 5.5g nano sw tank
... how long has the tank been set up? Gobys tend to need a tank that has been up for 6 months, otherwise they will starve.. they eat the coapods
btw nice star polyps! yours actually come out, only 1 or 2 of mine come out.
UPDATE: I bought a bubble coral! it looks so weird but awesome! I also got another frag of zoas. A different color this time. I wanted to get some branchy looking coral, and some more shrooms.

-unless you can get them to eat prepared foods. I don't know much about the Watchman goby, but it's probably easier to get them to accept foods than, say, a Mandarin.Mezzovex wrote:Gobys tend to need a tank that has been up for 6 months, otherwise they will starve..

Not all gobies are the same. Though he does filter feed, he will eat anything I have given him so far including bloodworms, mysis and brine. Like Pufferluv stated, its not like having a mandarin or scooter. And some folks even get those types to take prepared food as well. Dont worry, he's not starving by any means. He loves to eat and is fattening up nicely. Thanks by the way. I was actually hoping to get a pic when even more of the stars were open. Just have to catch them at the right time. I want some pulsing xenias. Those things are too cool.

Yeah, they can be like that. Make sure you keep extra shells in there so that doesnt happen. Mine like to play dress up, so I put a handful of shells in there. The red legs are pretty passive and dont bother much of anything. The blue legs can be quite aggressive. My largest blue pulled a red out of its shell and took it from him. Luckily the red didnt struggle much and no limbs were lost on either side. He just took the blues shell and moved on.

Re: 5.5g nano sw tank
Picked up my red banded pistol shrimp today. Cute little guy. He went to work excavating my tank as soon as he hit bottom. Cant wait till he meets the goby. Love at first sight I'm hoping. They are still at opposite ends of the tank so far. I tried to put him close to the goby when I dropped him in but his swimerettes were in high gear and aimed the wrong direction when he hit the water. Poof he was at the other side of the tank in a flash. Just my luck. Oh well, it'll happen.

Re: 5.5g nano sw tank
Is it brown algea? If so, it'll go away in time from what I understand. My tank has a bunch of it right now. If not, you may need more water movement. I ordered a new pump myself recently. A Seio Taam 320. 320 gph should help. Be cautious adding more than one crab too. Might want to read into that a bit. I thought I seen that they may fight and or kill each other. I wanted a pom pom too but I'd rather have the pistol shrimp. Here he is by the way. I didnt think I would get picks of him so soon.Mezzovex wrote:im thinking about adding another crab of some type. Re: 5.5g nano sw tank
