Woke up, with a strange new energy and got all my chores done - and then went on a trip with my sis, her boyfriend and my cousin... Finally got my tank, brought it home and now - scrubbing the piddle out of it.

Gettin it ready to soak over night!

Got up at 5:30am, went to a ladies house I'm pet sitting for to take care of her many cats including one with diabetes that needs insulin injections twice daily. Went to work at 7, had a very busy and stinky day (literally- shelter dogs STINK) and we didn't get done with surgeries until 6pm, got off work at 7, went from there to pet sit again, then got home at quarter til 8. Long day!

Today has been the day from hell!!!

Normally I get up, turn on the computer and read all my emails and reply to them, read Puffer Forum stuff, etc. This morning I come in here, turn on the computer and I got a message saying my virus protection could not run. So I try this and that and and nothing is working. I unplugged the router and still nothing. And it's as if Windows has just disappeared and there's no operating system. I couldn't do a System Restore, nor much else for that matter. And I was totally stumped. Frustrated I went and woke the husband up, and he was all grouchy because he hadn't had much sleep (he works nights) and he came down and tried to get it going, but still nothing. It was becoming clear that we had a serious problem on our hands, and I use the computer A LOT, so I wasn't happy. I ended up looking through our local classifieds paper and found a tower advertised for 40 GBP and it was local. I had the husband go and get it. He came back and hooked it up and it's excellent! He even got it for 30 GBP (will have to fine tune it because certain keys are coming up as something else when I hit them, I think it's been put on the American keyboard even though we've got a British keyboard).

And that wasn't the worst of it.

I found my Nefastus dead this morning!
He had a big ugly sore on his back, close to his head. I am guessing that those evil algae eaters sucked onto him, that's what the wound looked like anyway. I needed to do a water change on that tank today anyway, so I got in there and got those 2 big evil fish out of there. When hubby came home we went over to the LFS and I traded them for another Nefastus. My friend the manager was not in today, and the one employee looked at me and said he wasn't sure they could do a swap, and I'm thinking, well I don't see you selling these puffers, they've been here since October of last year. Then I went and talked to the other employee who's more senior than the first guy and he was fine with it.
I was really disappointed in losing "Oscar" and I have to be honest, I felt a bit hostile towards those algae eaters. And thing is, my Nefastus was regularly fed snails and his teeth were normal, but they (LFS) haven't done anything towards giving those poor puffers anything crunchy to help keep their teeth in check -- even though the manager said he would. So my new Nefastus is rather toothy.

Anyway, I've finally finished cleaning and feeding all the critters, so now it's my time to do absolutely nothing the remainder of the evening.

I doubt the plecos killed it though, probably sucked on it after it had passed.

If they're the Chinese algae eaters then yeah... They're evil and no surprise there... Good thing you got rid of them!

Today I cleaned a lot. A lady is coming by tomorrow to buy our old stand and we're giving her a bunch of plants too (why not, they'll just grow back for us ). I also put caller ID on my phone and that way I can avoid people I don't want to talk to instead of not answering it at all We're going to my dad's for dinner and still waiting for this darn fish. I want it NOW

Finally done with dayshift, thank god.

After reading that story I may pull out the chinese algae I have in with Bloat, but he does such great job keeping my tank looking nice

It was an CAE, not a plec Swimz$ .... and they grow FAST! They definitely do a great job of keeping the tank free of algae, but if you've got any fish that sleep on the bottom of the tank, then they are in jeopardy. I'm sure that's what happened to my Nefastus, poor thing. He was such a happy puffer too!

Today, got the drop checker all siliconed up and also set up the co2.

Today, I purchased 3 bags of Pool Filter Sand, a new hinge for my glass top, but the LFS was out of aquarium sealant. Got talkin to the kid about my new aquarium - and he tried getting me to buy a $200 wet/dry filter, and a huge bottle of stress coat. He said, "you know you'll have to have that up and running six weeks before you put that puffer in...." What he doesn't know, is that I have about six sponges between two tanks soaking up all kinds of good bacterias, as well as a few mason jars to hold substrate from the other two tanks - I think I'll have it cycled quick enough

Also picked up a bunch of slate and flagstone at my boyfriend's work, I'll have to scrub it up and when I get some sealant I'll be making a structure... So now I'm just waiting on the big board to go under the tank, and I need to get it outside to give it a super good scrub down (prolly tomorrow morning) then see if I can get my cousin to come help me get er all set up. So glad I have this weekend off - Going to be nice, peaceful and full of aqua-scaping.

Oh, and before he gets to a computer and tells you - Jeeps got a flat tire on his car just now. I'm starting to think there is something to this... like... some force does NOT want him behind the wheel.

Found a clam shell in the tank today... been a couple days since I fed him clam............
