It came with the skimmer. My aunt just bought it for me, I don't want to dissect it. And, I highly doubt I'm allowed to take the "blue noodles" out regardless if I wanted to or not. As long as the skimmer is kept clean, I see no harm with it.

Dissect? Just pull them out. I have been running these skimmers for 5 years without them. Detritus gets caught in there, just like a sponge. Nice aunt!

I totally understand & sympathize with your concerns on this. You can easily use dead rock at this point, it will become live rock in time, seeded by what you already have.

The only thing I have was added at 1.012 and it's four pounds, I don't know if it's dead or not.

I'll see. Still have to get the protein skimmer all ready. Don't think I'm taking out the "blue noodles", though.
