I just siphoned out a BUNCH of worms! I only changed maybe 20% of the water, but I took everything out and did a good siphoning and treated the replacement water. I still dunno where those snails are- they show up on the sides of the tank when they think nobody's looking.

my lfs had one for a lot of money

I saw a lot of gsp's at Walmart, tonight. My daughter's piano recital was 45 minutes away and on the way home I thought I was lost and noticed the gas light had also come on, so I pulled into a nice shopping center and called my BF to save us. lol While my 3 kids and I were waiting, we went into the Walmart and in the fish section was a tank of gsp's. It was probably 10 gallons, but tall, and I am guessing there were 10-15 gsps swimming around. Some had dark bellies and didn't look interested in much, at least one had a nip out of its tail, but surprisingly, quite a few looked round and nice white bellies. The healthier ones also came to say hello. Their little info chart said they eat flake food, though. grr. Not much else, either. I wonder if they were in fresh water- probably. Someone posted recently about getting a gsp from Walmart out of pity and impulse, mostly. They ARE so darn cute!! Actually, this store had a couple LONG 55 gallon tanks for sale. Not really anything to decorate, nor salt, etc. etc. And of course, they didn't have SafeStart, even though they had plenty of other Tetra aquarium products.

I took a couple short videos of the tank with my cell phone. When I can ever get the files off my phone, I will upload them. (I'd forgotten my GOOD camera was in the car.)

I've read so many stories about people in the US seeing sick/dead GSP's in Wallmart and info on the tanks and from the employees saying that they eat flake etc. Can someone not right an offical letter from ThePufferForum stating all that is needed to care for these puffers and send it to Wallmarts headquarters? They shouldn't be aloud to sell such a fish if they cannot provide the correct info on keeping them, let alone the proper living conditions in their shop!

I agree. I haven't been visiting ALL Walmarts- making a documentary like Super-Size Me lol- but it seems to be an issue. Most fish stores at grocery stores- like Meijer- and others like Petco have a lot of dead fish. Aren't they checking on them? I saw someone cleaning out the tanks one day at Meijer at least.

I was just reading books about fish. I still like the looks of the dogface and valentini. Was also seeing about other fish. If I one day set up a full-salt tank, would a dogface and some yellow tangs do okay? I know you can't have coral with the puffers.... The tangs need it? "I so confuse!" lol Oh- and copperband butterfly! Picasso Trigger?! hehe... Mind you, I'm not looking to go out and set anything up today. I've just been ready any and all books I can find on marine set ups and puffers. Somehow, I get the picture that you either have to do full marine with corals and lots of colorful fish, AND/OR a puffer tank. If it was big enough, I suppose you could do crabs for food. Heck- my grandparents built a really cool house (now sold) on Vancouver Island in the late '70's/early '80's - in Victoria B.C.- about half hour outside of town- which was literally a walk down the driveway, across the street, and down to the sea! As a kid, I used to go turning over rocks and collecting little crabs. Oh the memories!

Cowfish look really neat, too- but it seems they are VERY fragile. Plus, some species of fish just don't do well as babies but that's when they usually sell them- like the yellow boxfish.

But back to the store topic, that 55-gal long looked neat. Would that be good for a puffer, as its long and not tall?

Also, a salt tank takes lots of equipment- skimmers, for one, and some have all-in-one systems, with the filter, refractometers, etc. etc. One of these setups could easily cost $2000 U.S. I wish my lfs would have a tank give-away like someone on here mentioned.

Oh- and Squirt has stopped pouting. He was out swimming around and ate just fine last night. I do wonder about sand sometimes for him, but doesn't it get sucked into the filter more easily? He still seems healthy. I'm going to do a partial w/c today because lots of the worms he got last night probably snuck into the gravel again. Although, the old bag of worms I bought a few weeks ago when I got him was still in the fridge last night and only one looked dead. Still, I got rid of them.

Thats from a walmart tank!! thats the cleanest nicest looking tank i've ever seen in a walmart.. My walmarts dont have gravel or decor, just slime and algae and all the fish look sicker then any one of them
