That's how I cycled all of my tanks. You need to keep a close eye on the parameters for a while but it works very well!

Just wondering, when will my tank be fully cycled? I did the water tests and there are no spikes in the ammonia or nitrites, but there are a bit of nitrates showing up on the liquid test. The shrimp was in there for 5 days, and man it was stinky So should I wait a few more days and then test and see what shows up in another few days. I will keep feeding the tank fish flakes though.
