I suggest using a syringe to try & rinse out the holes that are left & see if you can't force out any remaining worm pieces. I also agree strongly with the use of Tranquil over clove oil, for the length of time you will need to do the surgery. If the fish is tranquilized, it won't feel a thing.

Ok, I guess that superglue isn'r going to do the trick then. I'm glad a product like Tranquil is available though; to be honest I figured the surgery would kill the poor guy when using clove oil for that long. Hopefully I will be able to find out when/where I am moving so I can finally get this taken care of. That house we were looking at in the Catskills is out of the question now that the family has decided to raze it to the ground... So now we are scrambling to get something decent in time for school and when his work starts or else we're both commuting an hour and fifteen minutes to work/school.
