Oh wow, um check SAP's off my list. Now how many F8's could live in this tank?

Three, I believe. IIRC, the guide is 15g for one, 10g for each additional one.

In a 35, I would try 3 Figure 8's, with no other tankmates. Generally you want 10-15 gallons per Figure 8, and there seems to be less fighting when kept in trios vs pairs.
Otherwise, there's always combos such as a single Figure 8 and some bumble bee or knight gobies, but with the gobies you have to give them lots of territories, rockwork is best, to find caves, guard their own areas and a place to hide if the puffer gets obnoxious.
Just do your research first, don't get to the store and see a brackish fish and decide to put it in with your Figure 8, many of the brackish fish get pretty big and need huge tanks and/or schools to live properly.
I never found trimming SAP's teeth to be too tough, other than actually catching the fish in the first place. But it is nerve wracking and a major undertaking for someone who doesn't want to be physically handling their fish out of water, etc.

I'm sure I'll get better at it next time, since I have a better idea of what I'm doing and what to expect. Its just really scary the first time. Oh yeah, the first time was horrible for me too!
And now that I actually had one not wake up (from a reduced dose none the less!) I'm not anxious to try it again. I know it was because that poor guy was stunted so bad, but still...
