Lol if the alpha male theory is correct. Normally the timid one will just run away...but theyre in a tank with boundries so why would you just terrorise your fish. Although i dont think the word alpha or dominant should apply. Theyre simple creatures with a slight recognition of habits. Other than that its a fish but a cool one worthy of a forum amd discussions like these. If you want to pet your fish please do so and let us know if anything changes. Hes not my fish so share with us your theory in action. Pet him everyday maybe levitate him with your hands like that guy from wild boys. Just stick your hand inside everyday and share.

Not sure if I would try hand feed but even for my small puffer, I still use tweezers (just to be on the safe side).
