I'd guess he's easly 6inches long. The bloke at the lfs said there was an even bigger one than him so hopefully my guy will grow even bigger

Nice! I hope mine (2"-3" now) get to looking like that! (they seem to grow so SLOWLY though)

Yeah I rarely see mine fan out theirs. Why is it always clamped? I notice most of not all puffers are like that.

In most cases it's due to stress. Some puffers just do it regardless though, I suppose.

Those larger puffers w/large caudals use them in captivity primarily in turning when swimming at speed. Captive do get much room for fast swimming - when the caudal is used for very fast swimming.
Clamped fins certainly can be a symptom of stress or illness, but that is certainly far from commonly the cause of large puffers keeping their large caudals closed for easier swimming.

That's really good to know. I knew that stress wasn't the only reason, especially in large one, I just figured the person who asked was referring to puffers he seen in stores and such.

The crab didn't even make it to the ground. I love your gsp
