Is 1" thick enough?

It sounds like it's in wall so should be for most. The 10 ft panes will need to be braced tho to hold it straight under over a tonne of water pressure. It sounds like it will be set in top and bottom which will increase strength, however I would personally brace it in the middle from top to bottom to increase strength.

haha 10 ft panes are actually 1.5" as well as the bottom panel which will have reinforcement braces every 8". Still debating have been ponding over the MBU but i dont feel like these fish should be kept in captivity even in a 1500g tank. Which is why im leaning towards possibly establishing another ~850g below / above the current L shaped 1500g and keep the puffers in there for BW and have 1500g SW, although i've been trying to design an actual FW to SW tank but any way i divide it i have too much water transfer between the two, if any one has any suggestions for this i would love to have a tri-tank set up with both FW, SW and a BW point where the two meet.

it is and technically passes with the 3.8 safeness standard although i'd like to not even have nightmares about it so i went .5" thicker and 1.5" for both 10' panes and had the L shape cut at the same place i bought the glass, had to custom order it 2 weeks prior custom made!!! haha i felt special! the rest will be 1" as it was almost 3x the price for 1.5". Regardless have only spent 150$ so far for this custom set up and its included all brazilian cherry hardwood, which if any one doesnt know is rather EXPENSIVE found 4'x8'x4" 4 of these for 50$ i've been collecting for this project for over 8 months now. saw the figure 8's and fell in love at the pet store had to get them !

Wow, you really need to get some pix so we can see how the build comes together. I'd love to see how it turns out

The tri tank won't work, it will just mix. The flow required and the properties of water won't allow this to work I am afraid.

ok have finally built the stand and all the support needed to hold the 1500 gallons of water, but my debate is still going around in my head BW or SW im leaning more towards SW just because of the actual reef systems i would be able to establish in a 1500g tank although a 1500g BW tank would be just as intricate. Regardless I need some assistance on what to use for Filtration i've been looking to create either 1, 2 or 3 sumps depending on the flow i decide to set up whether both sides aimed at the corner (1 sump) or from 1 side to corner to next side (2 sumps). or from corner to both ends again (2 sumps) im leaning to more the L shaped current from 1 side to corner to other side. Regardless definitely need people's input on what kind of filtration system to run.

Also any one with previous experience if you can list pros and cons to either SW or BW which ever you have more experience with

It will cost you shed loads in salt if you go brackish, live rock for a marine tank will cost a small fortune but will pay for itself with the salt you will save, a sump is the only sensible way of filtering, I would use 2 or so very large sumps, have you thought about how you are going to heat the water and how many powerheads you need for flow?

yeah i've already set most of this up, or atleast where it will go. Designed the Sump underneath the actual tank but will not be visible unless you open small compartment im designing into the wall to have access. Heater will go in the Sump to keep it out of visibility. I will be running 3 maxi-jet 1200's, still debating on how current will run pending marine or brackish tank.

Due to the shape you are planning you will need multiple heaters spaced to avoid cool spots or massive flow created by many powerheads at different heights/ angles. I cannot see a single sump maintaining even temperature

you dont know how large the sump is its a 650g sump will move roughly 38% of the water an hour, it will also contain 3-4 heaters. Still debating between SW and BW although im almost certain it will be SW.

I still think you may struggle to keep it even. Considering most of us aim for 10x turnover an hour. This may need a little more consideration. You are nearly there tho

Hmm I may just add more pumps to turnover more water an hour. Also reworking how i will be getting the water heated, debating if i should just add a line from the water heater. Still debating but have plenty of time from here till i finish.

also i've done a couple modifications to orignal specs now more along the lines of 12'x12'x4'x3' tall.



for better interpretation for everyone to visually see.

Very nice this beast will be great when you finish. How much £££ do you think this will set you back? Any pics of the frame? I wish i could get a monster tank.
