We keep the animals in apaling conditions totaly unsutaably for any living creature to have to stand, and then we eat them. And the thing is that all is completely unnecicary we caan get by just fine and even better in some cases without meat, so we do that to those animals for no real reason accept our pleasure.

Yes, sorry to say, I do eat chicken. I don't seem to identify with them as I do mammals.

Coco Puffs, humans are the only meat-eater who torture their food as horribly as they are we do for their entire lives.

I see your concern, but what is the solution?

I will have all of you know that if everyone got the RDA of vegetables, there wouldn't be nearly enough to go around. This is fact....

I will not participate in their torture, so I choose not to eat them. I do not cook either, so even if I could get a supply of meat that was not tortured, I would not prepare it.

The flesh of a dead animal = meat. Be it poultry, mammal, fish, insect, etc.

Source, please? Do you know how much perfectly edible food gets thrown away? America and other first-world countries do not have a food production problem. They have a food distribution problem.

Yeah, I know--I meant mammals.

Really? That's why the homeless & poor eat food bought from other countries. http://www.corporatewellnessinsights.com

I just buy from local farmers (local as in about 5-10 minutes away). You can look and see for yourself what your meat ate and if it was treated in any way, the cleanliness of the facility, etc.

That's all for now. My husband and I are working to be as fully self-sustainable as possible, though. We can offer our foods (meat or produce) the best living conditions, treatment, and foods possible.

If you don't know what's going into your food, you don't know what's going into you.

Still is there no solution to the improvement of their treatment? Most people really don't care, imo....

Actually, we should not be at the top of the food chain. The pure predators should be there - the lions and tigers and sharks and tuna and some cetaceans and the raptors. We jumped to the top when we learned to hunt in bands and then domesticated the grazers along with planting and harvesting rather than just gathering the plants we eat. Our brains are better than claws and teeth, so we jumped the line.

Much meat production is gross, no argument there. But there is no law that you have to comsue MacJunk and the chain groceries comparable products. You can use your mind and money to buy and consume quality foodstiufs.

Actually, this hobby is comparable to the mass market, as it is in the same mode. You can use your brains and do it right and have pet fish for years at least, and decades from certain lineages (loaches, cafish, puffers, Ciclids, etc.) All you have to do is decide whether you are a chain-store hobbyist or whether you prefer the good stuff. As with the foods we eat, my choice is woth the good stuff.

Individual choice.

Sure, there are solutions, CoCo. It's just about people, and more importantly, companies, willing to put them in action. I don't see the will at this time.

It's just like what I believe RTR is saying. All about the proper treatment and respect of animals. Now that he has brought it up, I can't see the difference between ill animals being pushed into slaughterhouses and goldfish getting churned out into pet stores to be stuffed into tiny bowls.

Of course there is a solution. Consumers will make the difference. Vote with your money, spend extra on the products that support your beliefs. Talk to your politicians, welfare agencies, agricultural agencies, etc. Make sure your input is heard.

Regarding animal welfare laws, the US is approximately 30 years behind Europe. Canada is about 20 years behind. Our -normal- disgraceful practices are illegal in other parts of the world.
