So, if I were to do live rock and dry rock, how many pounds of each would I need for a 55 gallon tank?

3lbs/gal is quite a lot of rock. Less swimming room.

Or even less LR & more day, if you are stocking slowly. 2 PHs are best, for uneven flow.

Don't forget that all that base rock will eventually become "live" too The LR will seed your substrate and base rock. +1 to PP for two PHs. I would worry about the flow in my tank of I inky had one because the tank is longer. At least with one on each side, I know the LR is getting flow

Looks good. When you are looking at tanks on CL's, if you can get one with a stand, do that, or like was suggested to me, build a stand out of cinder blocks yourself. Also when looking at tanks, someone (think it was Puffdaddy) told me to check out the seams, make sure that the silicone wasn't white, and to check the general condition of the tank. It if isn't scratched to all hell, and the silicone looks good, and it hasn't been sitting out in the elements since they broke it down, I would go look at it in person. Also, again, I wouldn't take too much of their already used stuff, as a just in case type thing. If they broke their tank down because of disease, you don't want to set it back up and introduce all the old stuff in there again with the possibility of getting the same disease again. The guy I bought my tank from tried to sell me all the other stuff as well, but I told him that I didn't need it, and he took $35 off the price. All I bought from him was the light set up and the tank/stand. I bought the light set up just because he offered it to me for $30 and not the $50 he wanted, and the original light that came with the tank was crap LoL.

All in all, don't be afraid to ask and look at it. You don't want a broken or leaky FT. I have yet to experience that (thank God, knock on wood, the whole bit) but I know there are others that have, including Sevenyearnight recently.

Hooray! So, the big question then for me would be is this perfect for a GSP to start (knowing that I can convert to full marine, as I assume this isn't a marine setup as there is no LR), or is this perfect for an F8 to start?

Either, you could keep several F8s in there & not need any live rock at all.
