lol, Smudge destroys shrimp. I've seen him chomp smaller ones down to the tail in 1 bite. He's vicious with big ones. I've seen him bite their backs and eat their eyes before he finishes them. >.>

Awesome, though in Pigs defense, he has never had shrimp before that I was not holding with some plyers/tongs.

Now that the ramshorn babies have gotten to pigfoodsize I can finally see them properly. There is at least a good 50 of them which I consider to be not that bad since I only had 3 snails to start with.

Yeah, these things breed like crazy. I still have too many clusters of eggs to count and they're hatching every day. I started with 6 but got lucky and got that huge load for free again.

They also eat like crazy, 2-3 algae wafers per 1-2 days

I feed 4 wafers a day just because there are so many plus a few ghosts

You two need to consider yourself very lucky or I'm very unlucky...

I've been trying the snail thing for about 6 month now on and off.... At first I got about 20rams for free and I fed my puffer faster than they could make babies, Then ordered 40 of them for $20 and the mail service decided to go on a 3 week strike so they all died.... ordered another 40 and they were in bags for no more than a hour (they came by float plane)... They had bright red shells but they slowly turn brown shelled and at least 20 of them died and only a few eggs sacks and the babies are still very small.... I finally clued in on GH and KH and adjusted the tank with crushed coral and a cuttle bone, the last 5 from that group of 40 all have very dark brownish shells. I just picked up another 6 large ones from my lfs for $1 each in hope that something will happen!

The marble cray fish tank isn't doing a whole lot as well.... My biggest one died last month for no reason (maybe age) the little guys are doing great but the 2nd biggest one hasn't had eggs in almost 3 month now >:(

I have absolutely no luck breeding crays or ghost shrimp in a breeder tank. Dunno why. They all end up being food for my GSP. The snails on the other hand are thriving. Warm water and 8 hours of light per day must be the right combo.

What's your temp at?

I don't have a thermometer in the tank but i'd guess 80 degrees.

I keep my pond snails at 30Celsius and ramshorn tank has no heater though they breed just fine, so do the red cherries in there for that matter. I did buy a heater for the coming winter though.

My ramshorn offspring has started laying small egg pouches too

I sometimes wonder if it is a good idea to give Pig snails. He gets hyper excited to the point where it looks like he might be on XTC .

I know exactly what you mean! Smudge absolutely nuts over snails. As soon as he smells them he starts swimming extremely fast all over the tank looking for them. I guess he really likes them.

The 3 random blue rams in my tank have been all over each other. I'm hoping i get a nice colony of baby blue rams going.

Nice, I contemplated getting blue ones as well. But the temperature in Sweden right now is not good for live animal shipments.

I was just lucky and got 3 blues from PetCo. I have some reddish ones too but they're most likely a brown/red mix. =/
