The Puffer Forum

I never use bubbles in BW or SW tanks (and only rarely in FW tanks). I hate the noise and will not put up with salt spray from bubblers. Current will provide the same effects without the bubbles. Hunter-predator puffers do like and need exercise, but also calm areas for naps and sleeping.

Have to leave the apartment. Gas break across the street, being told to leave. Hopefully it wont' be too bad

Thanks! =D I worried about it being over crowded, but I think it was PP that said that there could never be too much in a puffer tank. Looked thru the side, there is still lots of swim room in there. Hopefully next week I will be bringing him/her home!

I am! So far, the tank has been stable! All the numbers are looking good. Adding in more water and some Prime (finally got it!) brought the nitrites back down to zero (happy day!) and so my numbers are:

Ph: 7.8-8.0 (look in the middle)
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 0

What do you think? Tank has been cycling for 3 weeks now....Should I wait another week, or should I tell the LFS to start looking for a teeny weeny F8? He orders fish on Tuesday, so I would have to let him know by then. Then I would pick him up asap. I don't want him getting sick

I'm assuming the nitrate is 0 after your water change, I'd say order!

No WC (not technically), just filled the tank up the rest of the way. I left it cycling with about 12 gallons in there. I didn't have all the decorations and I didn't want to fight 20 gallons of water in the carpeted bedroom to put everything just the way I wanted it LoL. So it cycled with 12 gallons, put in my decorations, treated more water, added the water and waited a couple of days. Done about 3 water tests so far and everything has been pretty stable. So far so good. If you still say order, I will call tomorrow! =D

No Nitrites. They were up at 2ppm. After I added water, and it cycled for a few days, it went down. Sorry for the late response, we went out of town for the day. =)

I am not certain that the tank really is cycled. Can you do an ammonia challenge? About 0.3 ppm would be fine for t=0, then test at 12, 24, and 48 hours (approximately). At the 24 hour check, if NO3 =0, add another challenge dose of ammonia.

Sorry, not sure what you mean by "ammonia challenge" but may I assume you mean to add ammonia to the tank at those intervals and test out the water? Sorry, my lack of knowledge is showing = /

That's it exactly, make sure your tank can break down the ammonia, and
then the nitrite.

I thought you had done the final huge water change and that diluted your nitrates to undetectable levels.
