You have a freshwater puffer. Yes, he'd like a cave. A flowerpot will do.

I'd say M. cochinchinensis, because the target spot stands out a lot from the other spots.

This picture looks the most like him out of any Ive seen and it was the Fangs Puffer

I would not call myself an expert. The real experts are people like the ichthyologist Maurice Kottelat, who did a lot of research on the "target group" and Monotrete spp. puffers. I'm only using his results and apply them to the hobby.

M. cochinchinensis will very probably be the right ID.

I josh a bit. It seems hes finally calmed down for the evening so I took 1 last shot of him. For the first few hours he was swimming against the glass. Very happy with my purchase. Any other last tips you can offer would help other than that Ill use this site to do some research.

Don't sell yourself short. Corvus is the best expert for ID we have!

I got him for $29 at a LFS in Arizona if anyone's interested. After doing some research it seems they go for at least that or more online not including shipping so it worked out there.

It already seems like hes almost watching me

One question Ive noticed a few members discuss how often they feed them. Are they prone to over eating if I put snails and ghost shrimp or similar in enough supply for a week or 2?

They can eat to bursting. Going on vacation?

Not at all I just wanted to see if it was a bad idea to put more live food in the tank then they should eat in 1 sitting.
