Happy to see most of the target puffers arent very common at your LFS. 2 questions hes obviously young do I need to make the switch to brackish now and should I get him a cave?Pufferpunk wrote:My guess is also turgidus but let's see what Corvus has to say.

You have a freshwater puffer. Yes, he'd like a cave. A flowerpot will do.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

I'd say M. cochinchinensis, because the target spot stands out a lot from the other spots.
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a fish a man, and he'll eat for weeks.

You seem to be the expert. Any better pictures I can get you or is that your final opinion? Thanks again.Corvus wrote:I'd say M. cochinchinensis, because the target spot stands out a lot from the other spots.

Re: Monotrete Leiurus
I would not call myself an expert. The real experts are people like the ichthyologist Maurice Kottelat, who did a lot of research on the "target group" and Monotrete spp. puffers. I'm only using his results and apply them to the hobby.
M. cochinchinensis will very probably be the right ID.

Re: Monotrete Leiurus
I got him for $29 at a LFS in Arizona if anyone's interested. After doing some research it seems they go for at least that or more online not including shipping so it worked out there.

Re: Monotrete Leiurus
It already seems like hes almost watching me
One question Ive noticed a few members discuss how often they feed them. Are they prone to over eating if I put snails and ghost shrimp or similar in enough supply for a week or 2?
