I would absolutely love to see a 5 gallon tank adequate to feed any 5 year old Fahaka anything daily.much less that and an F-8, with RCs on the side. By age 5 my Fahakas largely ignored pond snails and would only take 2/3 - 3/4" ramshorns - which I doubt seriously that you would see many of in a 5 with shrimp.. The RC shrimp would not be even an appetizer. The entire stock of a 5 would be less than a meal.for a nearly full sized Fahaka, which an adequately housed 5-year old should be, at least well over a foot. I don't remember what size mine made by 5 years, but at 7 an 8 they were 16-18" and small one -the female - had been dropping eggs fro a year and a half, so well post puberty and in slower adult growth.

Truthfully, as Im happy with the pond snails, Im trying to cull the growth of the other snails (when I went to the store and asked for snails, which they gave me free, they threw in all kinds). I wish Id known before just to seperate the ones I want, but how could I have known? I just noticed a baby ramshorn, the first one Ive noticed in the tank, but Ive got lots of baby MTS now which is frustrating, but as I say I use them in our other tanks. Maybe its time to add more to the cichlid tank. Pond snails are great, I dont want anything else. The sooner I can help my F8s grind down their chompers, the better. Also Ive noticed increasingly that my puffers dont want jumbo shrimp. Its clear to me that its a treat food.

Well RTR if you had actually read the post I made,....I never said it was a 5 gal tank, I never said I fed hundreds of snails every day, just some, and I never mentioned feeding the fahaka any shrimp. Others have said they feed them to their F8's as a snack so I passed that along. Chirp all you want. I breed my snails and shrimp quite successfully in a 55 gal.
Regardless I think you are on the right track fugu99, best of luck in your endeavor.
