Getting a M turgidus- Brown Puffer

I was at PetsMart on Sunday and I saw such cool decorations! I saw one that would have been perfect in one of my tanks, but a couple of its holes were just barely too small for the inhabitants and they'd get stuck. I saw some great mangroves and a really nice hollow log.

As much as I knock PstSmart for their fish, they do have a very good selection of decor. Not too gaudy or flashy, more on the natural side.

That is so cool that he's out exploring! Bubba is very shy, but always gives a little "wiggle/wave" when I stop by to say hi. Unless he's hungry, then all I see are teeth scraping the glass and a white belly!

I have found that turgidus are a bit more sensitive to dirty water, so make sure you do good clean up and changes. I think its because he lays on the substrate a lot, if I haven't done a good vaccuuming he'll get sores. Lately though, he's been laying on the driftwood (I have it piled up with lots of nooks and crannies and he picks and chooses where he wants to hang out for the day) instead of the substrate

He will eat snails, but won't hunt them on his own (there are plenty in the tank). Only if I crush them first. The other day he had one crawling across his forhead and kept going crosseyed trying to look at it! Loves nightcrawlers. I need to try some fiddler crabs, but only when my boyfriend isn't home as he'll freak out He loves raw shrimp, absolutely hates mussles. So/so when it comes to crickets and grasshoppers.

He's very pretty Myaj. I've noticed that Rowdy is very a messy puffer too! I've thought about moving him from the 30 gallon to a 45 gallon. But haven't made up my mind yet. He is extremely active...day and night. Not sure if that is normal for them or not. I've only given him crays and snails so far. I'm not sure if he ate the snails or not. I saw him ram one once and that was it. I did a 50% WC this morning (oh how I hate that tall tank) and think I'll start doing at least a 25% twice a week.

I'd like to see that too! I couldn't be happier with Rowdy it's adorable how he stalks his prey...sneeky sneeky..bam!

I think you will find that once he gets used to the tank and finds a hiding spot he likes, you won't see him out as much. That was the case with my turgidus puffer, he swam around a lot for the first couple of weeks. Now he spends all of his time in one of two caves I provided for him. I vaguely remember reading someone else on this forum having the same experience also.

That was me & is why he now belongs to Myaj. He looks very happy there too!
