Well I am a bit dissapointed, I just got back from doing food shopping and thought I would buy Samson a treat, So I grabbed some small fresh water shrimp,
I soaked it in tank water, and he is not even the slightest bit interested, i thought for sure he would gobble it up???. I am gonna try soaking them in garlic tonight and see if that will help, I thought fahaka's were suppose to adore shrimp. Weird?

hahaha kukah goes GAGA over shrimp! did you get the pink salad shrimp? cause those are already cooked... maybe that has something to do with it... and they like shrimp when they still have the shells on too... hope i helped... maybe go to the seafood section (where they sell the fresh fish) and ask if you could have or buy just one piece of shrimp... just to see if he likes the raw shelled kind, it will be a bit bigger than the salad shrimp, but you could always cut it into pieces and freeze it... my grocery store let me just have a piece.

I tried the shrimp again tonight, he destroyed it LOL!, I got the smaller cooked, without shells.. he seems to love it, tore into one, and devoured it LOL!
I am very happy he likes them, I wanted a varied diet for him, i want to try krill as well, but its a bit pricy right now :)

I am going back to school so I need to conserve money :)

What store did you get that from? I haven't been able to find raw seafood. I'm worried about buying too much though as I don't know if the SAPs will eat it. They don't like krill or plankton...

I found mine at food basics, they have all kinds of sea food, raw and cooked stuff :) 6.99 for 20 jumbo shrimp :)

I had a hard time finding anything that wasn't "previously frozen", until I discovered that Metro has bulk frozen seafood! They have 2 kinds or raw shrimp (and some cooked) plus scallops. You can even buy single pieces! I think it's 9.99/kg. Buying this way it can be kept frozen until you need it...no need to re-freeze, buy huge bags, or buy fresh every couple of days...

Nothing wrong with frozen. Gotta freeze most of it anyway. I defrost in luke warm water with vitamins.

Yes, unless you live on the coast, a good part of the "fresh" seafood at stores (at least around here) *has* been frozen, and really shouldn't be re-frozen. Whereas when you buy frozen it's usually frozen when it's very fresh, before being shipped out to the store. Kept frozen, imho is the freshest way to go. (Unless, of course you are lucky enough to have access to truly fresh, fresh!)

Don, your Samson is so cute, I want one now. Thanks for sharing the pics and vids.
I get a large bag of frozen shrimp, not those tiny salad ones, with the tail on, raw for under $9. They're at Walmart, such a great deal. Puff Puff and my cichlids go nuts for them. I give Puff Puff the end with the shell and the cichlids the rest.
