Sorry, I have only just seen this and it's too late but for future reference i have some good advice for this kind of thing and i know from experience it works. I (INCREDIBLY STUPIDLY!) cleaned the filter sponge under the tap (was hungover and not thinking clearly) effectively wiping out all the good bacteria and having 4 F8s in a tank with NTS. As expected the nitrite spiked massively but i had a brainwave and it actually worked! Firstly i did a 50/60% water change then i put some Nitrazorb in the cannister filter which helps but what saved them was the Bactinettes you can buy and put in the filter. They're the "live" bacteria for sale in fridges in fish shops. The nitrite went to 0 in 24 hours, the puffers lived and i learned yet another lesson the hard way!
