FINALLY!!! I think someone see the point i was making.....i thought i was on the " i hate mbu owners " forums for a bit. im presuming your profile picture is of your mbu you own....he looks cool.

We don't hate mbu owners by far, we actually respect them greatly, it's just different looks on things and some times people come off harsh but don't mean too. Mainly because we care.

I agree that it is incumbent upon the fish owner, whatever the species, that they fully research their fish (before or after purchase - pref before) so that they give their special little fellas the best life possible and if that means a 12x4x4 tank together with all that it entails then it should be provided.

Yeah, Brian is in my profile pic, it was taken a while ago - he’d just chowed down on a muscle. He looks quite pleased with himself don’t you think?

I haven't got any recent stuff of him, I thought I had. I'll take some pics/footage of him this evening and upload it tomorrow. He's a big lad now. I'll also post a pic of him taken a year ago, so as you get an idea of the growth rate.

yeah Clooney died in october due to my keeping him in a tank too small, even with 200% water changes weekly I could not get the nitrates below 160ppm

just out of curiosity manutius did you use r.o. water for " clooney " i been thinking of using pure r.o. water for my mbu " sushi " and buying the additives to mix to add the minerals he needs......expensive way of doing things i know but if it makes his water much better then i think i will go down that road. I know when running my r.o. unit when doing changes on my marine tanks, the tap water that goes in has a real high tds....which must mean my tapwater is craaaaaaapppp!!!

How do you do a 200% Water Change?!?!?!? That's like if I have 2 marbles in my hand, and I drop 4!

or maybe if you do 2 100% water changes in one week...

Unless you have fully cycled, right temp, right pH, right nitrates/trites, etc. tap water, 100%+100% COULD POSSIBLY be a LITTLE harmful to your fish?

I would think the nitrates frying his gills a 160 ppm would be a bit more harmful than WCs...

Either option would be harmful. Or am I wrong?

And I can settle this dispute. Don't get an Mbu unless you have a huge fw tank that you can keep it in, and care for it responsibly. Don't make an impulse buy, or a compassion buy. They are too big of fish to be kept in regular aquariums. So, unless you are a responsible, expert fish keeper, don't buy one. End of story.

I wish there was more information on puffers available for people to learn before they buy. I just don't think there are enough books available to the general public versus books on dogs cats and goldfish.
