Electric Blue Hermits are real arseholes, well, mine is anyway, he is only half the size of my other hermits and he pushes them around like a big bully. He is really fun to watch though :).

I'm saving it for my plants! My fiance thinks i have lost my mind.

Aren't you worried about vacuuming up the little snail egg gels? I did a WC today on my snail tank but I didn't vacuum the gravel cause I need those darn baby snails to hatch! LoL please let me know what you do so if there is something I am missing, I could learn from you =)

I don't vacuum the substrate in the snail tank. You can divert the powerhead flow to allow the substrate to release its poopies and detritus and then syphon the the water collumn. I might be doing it wrong, but I didn't want to syphon up babies.

My snails have taken to laying 99% of their eggs on the walls of their home, I think there was only one batch on the gravel. They're pretty sticky though, so unless you get the gravel itself I think the eggs would be fine...
Earlier today I read someone suggest not using any gravel in a snail breeder since its so much easier to clean, & I wish I read that before I set the tank up... But its actually really pretty in there so I think I may leave the gravel in :P but if you're worried about the eggs, that may be a good solution for you.
Oh, also what may help is kind of stir up the water directly above the gravel when you're vacuuming. It'll kick the poo up so you can get it without touching the egg sacks :)

Installed a skimmer, the lid doesn't fit now :o . I guess I'll see about cutting a hole in the lid and perhaps move the TL lighting to the side a bit.

I have the UV sterilizer as well but I don't have any hosing for it yet.

The skimmer is doing a good job, nice icky green/brown drab in the collection cup. Also changed up to 1.021 salinity and added Live Rock. It's rather old rock and I am wondering how "alive" it is. It's full of different kinds of macro algae at least and I have found some worms on 1 of them. I did find 2 kinds of corals that hitchhiked along and what I think is a glass anemone, but I am not sure if I am gonna attempt to remove it. I might just remove the entire piece of rock because its only a small one.

The puffer seems really happy with the live rock and the higher salinity. He was visibly upset with the Polario 7ML powerhead for a while though. This powerhead simulates waves so it keeps changing direction every 5 seconds, but he is okay with it now that he got used to it.

The live rock seems to have come with a lot of small seastars that are eating all the algaes on the glass. Might not even need snails now :P.

Sounds like you got a nice set up now. With everything that came on/in the LR I would bet its still got plenty of bacteria.

I like the way the gravel looks haha, and it may be just me , but I think the snails might prefer substrate. I don't see them on the sides all that much....I took out the gravel the last WC I did and only left enough gravel in there to slightly cover it all: no gravel is piled any where, it's just a thin layer with all the gravel side by side (if that makes any sense whatsoever. LOL) I figured that way, when I vacuum, I don't have to vacuum alot, and I don't have to stir much either. We will see how it works the next wc. I have noticed though after doing that, egg sacks have been laid on plants on decorations more than the gravel LoL. I have lots of teensy weensy snails now. =)

Let me know how that goes for you! After I told you that mine prefer the wall, they all started laying their eggs on the gravel. Hateful creatures.

I am thinking of getting a new tank for them, I have them in a nanocube right now, and they keep getting sucked into the filter (or just sliming right into it). It's... very problematic. If I do, I'll probably do no gravel, even though I think it is absolutely hideous. I like my pretty snail tank :(

Removed 2 catfish from my filter sock , must of got sucked into the filtration. Both didnt make it . So were down to 1 catfish ! Covered the 2 penny sized opening so no one else get sucked in. Added about 2 gallons of water to the 170g tank to top off and level out the SG .

I will definitely keep you updated. After reading your posts about the temp, I need to get a better heater. They are in a 5 gallon aqueon mini bow, but the heater isn't very good. it stays at about 72 degrees. =( the only other thing i have is a 100 w cheapie tetra heater that can't heat worth a crap. I'm seriously tempted to try it out in there, just to see if it can't keep it a higher temp. But it makes me nervous LoL. Looks like I might buy another 50 hydor and a 200 w hydor (for 46 bow aquarium). Damn, the set up price for aquariums are freaking expensive! LoL
