hi guys and girls thought it would be best to tag this on here, anybody know how much tetraodon pustulatus normally go for ?
A new wholesale company we have started using at work has them on his lists i gave him a call as soon as i noticed says he can get them on special order [100% pustulatus so he says] i know there a rare and expensive fish but just how much is expensive ?
If anyone could give me a idea that would be cool will keep you all posted.
The Darkness.
PS- The first one is mine

The last true pustulatus I saw for sale was several hundred dollars.

Same here, several hundred.
And even then, you have to be really careful and make sure it really isn't a Fahaka before you hand over your cash.

If you are looking to get it for a shop to sell, I would advise against it. Very few people are willing to spend that kind of money on a fish and even fewer know how to properly care for or house them.

yeah I would be very wary of paying an high price on a fish that is hard to ID. Most puffers are labelled wrongly either at source of catching or by LFS, for example imagine a guy at the exporters with the new fresh caught fish as P. Teanatus which sell at £15-£20 each but they are in fact regular P.Pulcher about £3 each. The guy in your LFS sees the Taenatus on the list and orders them in at that higher price, he still needs to make his money back on these so will sell them in the shop as rare taenatus and not pulcher. This happens more with puffers as they are generally easier to confuse one species with the next. My LFS were selling GSP as F8 and when I pointed it out he said "we order F8, so whatever it is they are we sell them as F8"

cool thanks,
I did ask yesterday about the chance they could be fahaka he said he would guarantee they where pustulatus even offering money back if he was wrong [which could be a safe bet]
As for price think they will be somewhere between £200-£300, though i take your point regarding people not having the correct tank space our knowledge to keep them in good conditions.
As a side note i have a 150 X 75 X 60 with a FX5 external.

hmmm its a tough one, I would ask to see a picture first if at all possible if you are gonna go for it, otherwise a fahaka would like that tank

The tank was suppose to be for a fahaka but dont think i can pass up the chance for a pustulatus,
think i will get him to send me 1 once they have them back in stock and see what they send [fingers crossed i might get it at trade price]
size wise there down as 5-6 inches.

I contacted Rehoboth Aquatics asking about the availability of the T. Pustulatus and got this reply:
"They run anywhere from $150 - 450 depending on size. "

Would you take it if it was a fahaka anyway?
(The British say, "ain't"?)

If it did turn out to be a fahaka i would still take it [though not at pustulatus prices] that was what i set the tank up for in the first place so i would still be happy
