Well I don't know if i want to try brackish. At least not at first. I may after having the freshwater one for awhile. Oh and that piece of driftwood is actually plastic....... no real driftwood in there yet. I have tons in my 55 gallon but I am not sure if I want to steal that away from my turtles in there.

Okay so I am down to the irrubesco and the South American. Just don't know which one.

From my personal experience and taste, if you can get your hands on an irrubesco, get one of those.

SAP's are super hyper, and don't really have that slow, bumble-bee sort of swimming that makes puffers so cute. Plus of course the teeth trimming that needs to be done.

But irrubescos and any redeyes in general are pretty rare. I've only seen them ONCE myself, in all the years I've been keeping fish, and I'm still kicking myself for not buying them on the spot.

Same here. I only saw them once, and they were already sold!

Well the LFS told me they have had them in before in the past but didn't have some in at the moment. All they have in right now are a ton of 8 figure and leopard puffers and dwarf puffers. But they said that if I came out there and filled out a form they will locate what I am looking for and have it shipped to their store no charge to me. And they will call me when they get it in. I think I am gonna try that. I'll put all three red eyes down and see if they can locate any of them.

Although today looking at those 8 figured was pretty tempting.... one was chillin with me at the front of the tank watching my fingers while the others swam fast up and down the glass. If my tank was already cycled and it was brackish I woulda gotten one. They were only $8.99.

I do not agree that SAPs are not cute, every once in a while they will calm down and swim like any other puffer would. And hyper or not I love my SAPs

Figure Eights have loads of personality and some will tolerate a wide range of brackish tankmates. If you cycled the tank in fresh you could acclimate the F8 to FW and then slowly raise the salinity no more than .001-2 per week till he was at 1.005. It would require you getting a hydrometer and some marine salt, however.

Haha..... yea I would love another 8 figure I'll think about it. But I think it would be easier with a freshwater. I am going to wait till the middle of next week and fill out the sheet to get my red eyes. And then we will see. Until then Ive got filter media culturing bacteria in my 55 gallon tank and I have a turtle in the 20 gallon at least half the day every day. Can only do half cause it doesn't have a basking area and my little guy is a frequent basker. I have snails also breeding in that tank right now. I found all sorts of yummy frozen foods at that LFS like clams, krill, shrimp, silversides, etc. And some really awesome looking decor. Sadly I don't have like $200 right now to just blow there or that tank would look SOOOO amazing. I guess I will just work on it over time.
