Thanks Welch! Ill do that. An inch layer of top soil and 2 inches gravel? What plants would you personally reccomend? I want plants that are low light/low tech and that sill grow and spread across the tank floor. A lot of the 'easy, beginner' plants seem to need to be tied to rocks or wood and out above the gravel?

And inch of good potting soil(no fertilizers added) and an inch of gravel ontop. As far as ground cover. I would avoid common carpeting plants like hc,glosso, and hairgrass these require higher lighting, fertilizers ,and co2.You could go with some cryptocryne or anubias nana honestly a thing easy to car for that will stay lower to the ground. Look for an plants with a "easy" care rating until your more comfortable with live plants. Alot of chain stores will have plants already attached to wood or rock. You can try to find a good lfs or order online for bunched or potted plants.

The bundle of plants should be great for you. A wide variety means you can find what will work in your tank. I cant find specs on that light in specific regards to the kelvin range of the leds and the wattage. Looks like it might be a little lower output than you need. could you check the box and see if these specs are listed.

I'm glad we're seeing this much chatter about planted tanks. They are a lot of fun to maintain.

@Moh: It looks like you are well on your way. Just follow the advice given and you should be good to go. Cant wait until you start injecting carbon dioxide

Cant find specs on the light probably because I can chamge the bulb to different specs and the bulb it came with is already installed with no packaging. Im torn between this lot of live plants or buying plants from my lfs.

Get both. No such thing as too many plants. (Outside of asthetically) getting a large variety will allow you to find some that will thrive in your tank's conditions. I always try to support my local fish stores. I always buy my specimens locally and giving them my business when I can , even if it's more expensive than online, it's worth it to me.
