My CURREBT direction was entirely dictated by how far the plug leads reached; both filter outlets ended up being in the RHS of the tank, which gives a good clockwise DISCHARGE.

LOL! Convenience always matters. Frequently it is the first and prime consideration.

I've just put plans in for my new extension. The kitchen is going to have a dedicated tank area, I am sooooo excited.

If you cook a lot like me then keep an eye on the temp of the tanks. You would be amazed how cooking, especially in summer, could affect tank temps. Particularly in small tanks.

One year I had to use fans to keep the temps within normal.

As a precaution I tend to keep bubblers in all kitchen tanks to keep the oxygen high.

I've got double filtration on them both, and the Fluvals in particular provide excellent flow and oxygenation. I'm really impressed with them. I'm going to site the tanks on the opposite side of the (20'x20') room to the cooking area, and make sure there's good ventilation.

It's a point I hadn't thought of, I've got a decent floor plan sorted, but I'll get a dedicated room thermometer so I can keep an eye on the temperature.
