PP, do you recommend medicating food or in-tank bath? Can you recommend products known safe for Burrfish?

Thanks for the info. Metro was ordered. Haven't found a good Praziquantel source yet. Got my microscope out storage and should take a look at his feces, but haven't gotten too it yet.

Today he got sucked onto a power head intake and received a nice 3/4 inch round dashed white scrape mark on his back and a couple bent spines. Instead of trying to get away, which shouldn't have been hard, he puffed into a perfect sphere. Anne warned me, but I didn't listen. I thought the power head would be ok because it has a small guard on it.

He seems none the worse for the wear; just as if nothing happened, but we'll have to keep an eye on the scrapes to watch for infection. In the past I've used topical application of iodine on injuries like this (keeping it out of gills/mouth), but I have no recollection of the safety or efficacy of this treatment method, which would probably be stressful as he isn't completely settled in yet.

You could use SW Melafix just turn your skimmer off during treatment.

We have only Petco and Petsmart as fish stores locally. We mail ordered some Melafix but I doubt we'll need it by the time it gets here. He's doing fine and the white scrape marks from the plastic edges don't appear to be changing.

Have you seen the reviews some people give to Melafix Marine? Some people think it wiped out their tank, while others complain that it didn't work as an outright cure.If we don't need it it for no-name-yet it might be good to use quarantining new fish.

I haven't read reviews but have seen folks on my reef forum recommending it without past problems, even in a reef.

We've used the fresh water version with lots of fish with good results and no indications of stress whatsoever. I'm with you and your reef forum on this treatment.
