In the winter it is not so bad. With the passive solar assist, we commonly have to dump heat via AC (or shade some glass). This house cost less to heat than the former one, although half again as large and totally exposed on a windy ridge. We, by design, block solar gain in summer, but the AC costs are higher due to the tank room(s) both waste heat and humidity.

Leccy certainly is expensive when you have multiple tanks

We keep our house at 63 in the winter, because we have an old, leaky house with a fuel oil tank. It's so expensive to fill, so the thermostat stays low and if housecoats and blankets aren't enough, we have a little plug-in heater to take to whatever room we're in. It's not that taxing on electricity, though. We don't use AC units until abut July, because they are pretty abusive to the electric bill. Plus, our house is right on the Susquehanna river, so we have nature on our side most of the time.

As far as the tank goes, I'm not sure what that's been doing to our electricity bill lately. I haven't asked, and haven't heard any complaints about it, so who knows.

My goldfish, Mabel (She's a shubunkin, though, not a fancy!) got kinda sluggish when I left her at room temperature, so I put a heater in there and keep it at 70 or so. It's also supposedly helping with the plants I'm growing for the future DPs.

We're upgrading to a coal stove before next winter, so the next two months or so will be the end of the ice age in my house!
