Sigh, this just all seems so strange and illogical. That filter will not make ANY less noise on a 10 gallon than it would on a 30. Put a sheet of plastic under the tank to protect the dresser, +1 to PP; any kind of water will warp woods.
If she just doesn't want you to have a "big" tank, ok, she's the mom, but to give you reasons that don't make sense, and apply just as much to a smaller FW tank just kind of doesn't sit well with me.

However, yes DP's are cute. I hope she doesn't find a reason for you to not keep them at some point. Good luck. +1 to the title of your thread.

Perhaps you should trying making a "deal" with them.

If you really want to keep your 29 gallon tank you may need to make a few changes.

Ask your parents that if you can prove to them that you can get to sleep at a decent time and still get up for school and maintain good grades, can you keep your tank. Ask them to give you at least a week to show this to them though, cause it may take a bit of time.

For people who suffer from insomnia, or just even mild sleep problems you often have to set yourself on a certain path. Use your bed only for sleep. Don't watch TV, play videos, or surf the internet on your bed because your brain will begin to associate it with being awake. Next, don't eat at least 2 hours before bed. Do some light stretches about an hour before bed and just give yourself some time to wind down. Don't do anything that requires a lot of energy before going to bed or that gets you excited. And finally, when bed time comes, just let yourself relax. Try not to stress over anything or think about stuff that excites you cause it will only make sleeping harder.

Maybe do some research on the benefits of owning fish, then present it to your parents. For example: owning fish can help lower high blood pressure.

Best of luck!

we should make a thread labeled "How fish tanks help insomnia" for her to show her parents! "they should be atleast 29 gallon and have puffers"

her? I'm a dude lol. Unfortunately it is already taken down. I can have the ten gal fresh as long as I put something under it. as for my sleeping, I found and all natural pill and it works for me. I also followed your advice about video games and tv. My grades are climbing steadily up.

yeah, put a solid wood board (atleast an inch thick) under the ten gallon then cover it with a garbage bag, thats what i did for mine since the dresser is a particle board "wood". its funny cause the wood board is flat which keeps the tank level, but the top of the dresser is a little curved from having the aquarium on it without the board

also, thanks for the sleeping info! passed it on to my fiance since he has trouble getting to sleep. as for noise, ive had an air filter running for the past 4 years and now my room is too quiet(even with the filters in the 2 tanks running) if i turn it off!
