Does it make a big difference in smell? Once the wood is dry in the oven it doesn't really stink anymore, so I didn't really notice boiling being any better.

I've never baked wood, I can't comment. But I can put a lid on my wood curing tub, so if it is stinky, it would be contained.

Touche. My big pots have all lost their lids.
