If you have 2k, can't you buy a stand and make room? I'm asking this because I'm not sure what is limiting your space.

No, sorry I will reply.
Troll? Really?

To everyone else that keeps saying I was wrong ... you are completely entitled to your opinion. But, so am I.
The real shame of it is that we seem to have the same opinion, yet you are trying to put me down. UGH!
All I ask is that you re-read my post and then read my corrections. I had a couple typos.
Everything I stated is a fact and can easily be backed up.
If you follow the links, they already state everything that you are trying to say.
In fact, you are trying to correct me by saying the same things I have already said.
I consider most of you to be very rude and in this case, wrong.
You are wrong for trying to correct me by saying the same things I have already said.
To answer a couple points that were made ...
I never said that it was OK to put a pleco in salt ... never. I have only stated that it can be done.
I even stated that it will shorten their lifespan. If you choose to do this after reading that it will kill your fish, that's on you.
I let you know your options. Then, let you know the outcome of choosing one over the other.
You want to know if it can be done. I tell you it can, but here are the consequences.
I would rather you hear the options and be properly informed then to hear it from your LFS and wonder why nobody had ever mentioned it.
As for the MTS issue, I said not to feed the MTS when the puffs are babies. (because it will break their teeth)
I recommended rams and pond snails. When your F8 is full grown, it can prolly eat them.
If you had followed the link I provided on basic puffer care, it covers that.
In fact, if you follow the various links I have provided, you will see that you are just repeating information I have already provided.
I don't appreciate the way some of you have treated me. If it made you feel beter about yourself by putting me down... so be it.
But, we are actually saying the same things. You should get your facts straight before you call me a troll.
For those of you who tried to correct what I said ... go back and read what I typed ... you are saying the same thing as me.
I might just have to leave this forum if this is the way things work here.
PP, mods and "mentors"...
I am greatly disappointed in you. You have a level of authority here and are abusing it. Stop trying to correct what I am saying by saying the same things. Read my full post and nicely correct me if needed. I thought you were here to help me also. If I have some wrong info, nicely let me know. But, don't call me names and put me down. By no means should you ever encourage people to jump on someone either.
It's a shame if you are so set in your ways that you can't even hear another opinion. Especially, when it's the same opinion you have. Stop ranting for the sake of ranting. We are on the same side and are even stating the same facts. I choose to tell you all your options and why you should choose this option. Rather then just saying, this is the way it is cause I said so. It's a shame if you can't respect that.
To those of you who read my post and understood what I was trying to say, please forgive my rant.

I would like to believe that most of you are just trying to help and be sure he is given the correct info. I can totally respect that. But, that's what I am trying to do also. We seem to have the same opinions even.

No, it can't. Larger MTS have even harder shells than baby MTS. Adult puffers have broken their beaks attempting to eat them.CyberBob wrote:As for the MTS issue, I said not to feed the MTS when the puffs are babies. (because it will break their teeth)

Dude. Lots of things "can be done." Doesn't mean they should be done, or almost as bad, be recommended on a forum. Your post said:I never said that it was OK to put a pleco in salt ... never. I have only stated that it can be done.
I even stated that it will shorten their lifespan. If you choose to do this after reading that it will kill your fish, that's on you.

I don't see any qualifiers in your initial post mentioning shortened life span, plecos and salt, etc. Yes, you mentioned it after other people corrected you. But sorry, that's WAY MORE than "fixing a typo."You could put a small pleco in with them also or ottos. I would recommend the bristlenose pleco.
They are algae eating machines and only get about 4-5"
I don't consider the results of RTR's long-term studies on keeping F8s to be "opinion."It's a shame if you are so set in your ways that you can't even hear another opinion.
Yo ho, yo ho, a puffer's life for me.

Please stop spamming, CyberBob. It's spamming because I don't read your posts anymore, nor do I care about your opinions or comments. So, you can go ahead and troll elsewhere on these boards (I don't care, it's not my website), but please refrain from posting here. I don't mean to be harsh, but I've seen enough to know not to bother wasting my time reading any of your posts.
sevenyearknight, there's really no room in the house. Unless we broke down a wall and LITERALLY made more space, it's not happening. The house is a lot smaller than you think, with just enough space for everything and not very much more. The table is as big as it's going to fit, which means that unless a 30 gallon can go on a 31" long, 7 1/2 inch wide surface, it's not going to exist in this house.
Pufftastic, don't mind him
. I made this topic to get some answers, so I think the best way to do that is ignore him like he's not there.

I honestly thought the adult F8 could get through the shell. I stand corrected

I agree, I should have been clearer in my 1st post. Not an excuse, but I was loopy and tried to get mypoint across without having to type too much.
In this case, no I wasn't fixing a typo. I was elaborating with info I should have said in the 1st place after it was pointed out to me.
But, I did provide a link to read about bristlenoseplecos. I guess I was just assuming it would be covered in the profile.
I definetly should have made that more clear though, I agree.I don't consider the results of RTR's long-term studies on keeping F8s to be "opinion."It's a shame if you are so set in your ways that you can't even hear anothnot ridicule.er opinion.

It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

I do wish you would follow upon all the advice I gave. You might see that I said all the same things as the others.
Perhaps, I could have been a lil more clear. If you follow those links I provided, it would have cleared it all up though.
I was only trying to help.
Anyways ...
I just want to say congrats on becoming a man (or woman,i'm not jewish, sorry)
and I wish you a lot of luck with your puffers. They really are great pets to have.
I won't type anything else here.
Take Care & God Bless,

Re: I Want To Get Some Figure Eights
Okay, I'd like you to know that I read all your posts carefully and open-minded.
Hypostomus plecostomus (known colloquially as a sucker fish) along with Otocinclus is a genus of catfish (order Siluriformes) of the family Loricariidae commonly called Dwarf Suckers or Otos, can not have any amount of salt, not even aquarium salt. I don't see any information in your post saying it will shorten their lifespan.
Giant danio needs:Giant Danios natively live in a tropical climate and prefer water with a 6.0 - 8.0 pH, a water hardness of 5.0 - 19.0 dGH, and a temperature range of 72 - 81 °F (22 - 27 °C).
Also breeding snails is good because you will need them very often. Now I know you said don't feed MTS as their babies, but it's okay as they get to adults this isn't correct because MTS are far too hard for ANY puffer of any age or size. It would be like a human trying to chew a rock.
Now, if you genuinely want to learn than please actually take the information you learn and implement it.
We are all here to learn as a community and share our knowledge. However, there are some things that are just the way they are. Such as minimum tank size requirements and you can't put freshwater fish in brackish water.
If you're here to learn and share you knowledge please only give proper advice and correct knowledge. Don't tell somebody something that is going to cause huge problems and make them feel bad in the long-run. I don't know about you but I'd feel horrible if I killed a freshwater fish just because I wanted to have it so bad I stuck it in brackish. You're saying a lot of these can be done but shouldn't. That's like someone putting an Oscar in a 10 gallon tank just because they heard the 1 inch per 1 gallon rule.
If you're not sure about something, don't speak on the matter. Wait for someone else who knows to respond and learn from that advice.
The reason this is not okay is because 25 isn't even big enough for two figure eights. You absolutely need 15, for each, at the very least, no skimping. When you overstock a tank you lower your fish's immune system and water quality which leads to ich or other disease. Puffers create some of the highest bioloads.CyberBob wrote:
But, Ill answer them all in order just in case
IMO, 25 would be just barely big enough for a pair. But, again, it depends if we are talking about a tall tank or long tank.
Tall tank, no. Long tank, yes. You could put a small pleco in with them also or ottos. I would recommend the bristlenose pleco.

Part of this is right and part wrong. Fake plants are fine and you will have a hard time keeping real plants alive in even slightly brackish water unless they are well known to survive in it. Now keeping your GSP and giant danios together was cruelty. A green spotted puffer is very high-end brackish and danios are in no way brackish fish.CyberBob wrote:Your F8 won't care what plants you have, just that you have lots of them.
Live plants, plastic, it won't care. As far as I know, they are ok with any plant.
There is no 100% safe fish from puffers. They do usually leave ottos and plecos alone.
For the most part, you want fast fish. I had giant danios with my GSP.
People have had assorted luck with different fish though.
It just depends on your puffer. If the puffer starts to see a fish as food ...![]()

Yes, puffers need a fully cycled tank and this is great advice, along with raising the salinity to .002 a week is correct as well.CyberBob wrote:Must have fully cycled tank, slowly raise the salt level cause your LFS has probably kept the poor thing in freshwater.
Only raise the salt by .002 per week. Start considering a snail breeding tank. That will be a big part of your puff's diet.
Yes, the F8 does need to eat shells for their teeth.

Re: I Want To Get Some Figure Eights
If Im reading what your saying correctly, you only have 31in long and 7.5 inchs wide(front to back) to put the tank on. That sounds highly unstable for any size tank. When that 25 is full of sand and water it is going to be very heavy and if the base isnt fully supported you could crack or break that tank in some manor causing huge issues.
If thats all the room you have to put a tank, my only suggestion would be a 5g hex with 1(one) dwarf puffer by itself

Would that work since they're more tall than long?xrayjeeper83 wrote:If thats all the room you have to put a tank, my only suggestion would be a 5g hex with 1(one) dwarf puffer by itself
Anyway I agree. You need to make sure you have the whole outer edge of an aquarium supported properly and the bottom as well when you get into the larger tanks. Nothing can be hanging off the edges anywhere.
