You have my heartfelt sympathies for little Ollie, and I feel even more love for my little Jabba and I will do my due diligents to keep him healthy.

Is it possible for well water to harbor bacterial diseases?

Yes, all of our water, even treated city water very well may contain different bacteria, fungi, and parasites.

Ollies empty tank sitting on my desk isn't helping at all, and i need to figure out how to deal with it
sterilize everything & put it in mothballs?
toss the sand & media, bleach the rest?
toss it all and be done with it?
for all i know, it may not be unsafe to just use it as it is, but to take a chance?
i don't know, but dealing with the tank is like burying my poor little Ollie all over again
i became terribly attached to him over the five & a half years we were together
i miss him

I personally don't think what he had was contagious.

i'm thinking along the same line, and might keep the tank in service "as-is"
