I hate that that happened!

Seriously, I am so sorry.
What happened do you think? I was so hoping for his recovery. I am so sad for you.

Is it possible for well water to harbor bacterial diseases?

Yes, all of our water, even treated city water very well may contain different bacteria, fungi, and parasites.

thank you all for your help, support, and kind words
i feel really gutted right now, but your thoughts and wishes help a bunch
Ollies empty tank sitting on my desk isn't helping at all, and i need to figure out how to deal with it
sterilize everything & put it in mothballs?
toss the sand & media, bleach the rest?
toss it all and be done with it?
for all i know, it may not be unsafe to just use it as it is, but to take a chance?
i don't know, but dealing with the tank is like burying my poor little Ollie all over again
i became terribly attached to him over the five & a half years we were together
i miss him

i'm thinking along the same line, and might keep the tank in service "as-is"
it would be good for me to do so
i'll think hard on it, and make a decision...........
thanks Pp

until i decide which way to go with it, i figured i'd keep it cycled with fish food
(flake food & some defrosted bloodworms?)
