I will agree with John about SW being expensive. That's one reason I had to do away with SW all together. I do still have my old LR well makes good base rock now and also the skimmers. Buy little at a time is how I done it. But still buying the salt and salt for the WC's get really expensive.

If I remember correctly you set up a FOWLR. Big difference once you go reef. I've spent close to $300 on clean up crew, a couple of fish and a few corals and I'm just getting started. Plus lighting will be a huge expense for him. I've recently past the $1200 point on my 28 gallon NanoCube. I've always heard be prepared for it to go as high as $50 a gallon on smaller tanks but I never believed it, now I do.
