it is weird. They are only fish, we cant pet them or take them for walks lol

Xray, I know what you mean. Even my husband (who doesn't really *get* my passion for fish) is sympathetic. I've been upset all day, wracking my brain to figure out if I did anything wrong. But then again, I guess this can happen, as it did to PPG. Perhaps almost 3 hrs in the bag was too much? I mean, they ship fish overnight, but that might entail oxygenating the bag or other special additives.

The sand was new - some of that soft gold sand that supposedly has nitrate-clearing bacteria (not that I believe that stuff). Perhaps that can go bad? It was mixed half and half with aragonite. Still, no ammonia, no nitrite, used Dr. Tim's to set up the tank and filter....pure RO water and new filtration media (just a sponge), pH 7.5, temp 73.8.

Ugh...just sick about it.

This has no bearing on the death of your puffer, but next time I would increase the temperature to somewhere between 76-78F.

How long did you take to acclimate him?

If there was dead bacteria in that sand (no such thing as live bacteria in a bag), it could have caused some sort of spike in your parameters. Did you test the water at any time, during the time you had the fish or after the death?

Why RO water? Is there something wrong with your tap water?

Why did you mix aragonite in with the sand?

Why such low temp for a tropical fish?

I thought congos were FW and didn't need "live" sand

can i get his email and should i do a full cycle on the tank tis been void of fish for about a year but still got water in it
