Actually, I'm glad you brought that up Mezzovex, because I had seen that you've got a Fire eel listed in your signature and I was going to ask if you kept it with your Fahaka. I've got a small Fire eel, about 6-7", just starting to fill out, and he lives in the same tank with my Mbu. My husband thought BeeBoo would eat the Fire eel, but BeeBoo barely gave him any notice at all. Now the Fire eel mostly hides in a PVC pipe that's in there, but I will be curious to see how things go once that eel gets a bit bigger.
Does your eel try to escape at all?

Six five days after today - I'll have my new tank!

I kind of wonder how a fire eel would do; I'd hate for vicious to eat a $16 fish (LFS has a little one for that much... or did last I checked) and I'd hate for the fire eel to hurt vicious...

HMMMM.... I might try it though, and watch them closely!

I did alot of research before I got my Fire eel, because of the tank it was going into ... and they are actually very peaceful fish, not the horrible things that most people think they are (and I thought like that too before I read up on them). So if anything, I would think it would be your Fahaka that hurts the Fire eel, not the other way around.

Yeah, reading up on them myself right now... I'm not sure if I wanna try for a fire eel or a ropefish... The ropefish being more 'snake/worm' like... Maybe I'll go for the eel and the ropefish - and let them get settled in the large tank a day or so before putting Vicious in.... with a small school of tiger barbs... It'll be a few days after I get the tank that I'll have it fully set up and ready to go for Vicious anyways. Gotta clean sand, aquascape, and work on the whole 'cycling' thing - Extra sponges from my old filter and gravel from the tank he's in (in mason jars) along with the larger rocks, plants and such from the tank he's in now. I'll also have to get a mesh netting to put over the opening where the filters are, so eel and ropefish alike cannot get out.

Fire eels are very peaceful. The only thing i was worried about was Dib biting. My eel cost me 60 when i got him at 12" lol I had him with all my africans. My tank top is totally sealed so i dont worry about him getting out. He just freaks out when he doesnt have a place to hide. I will take pics of him, and my fahaka soon... ((looks for a camera...))
Tanks I currently own:

125g freshwater tank w\ 30g sump, 840gph pump, ocean clear canister filter,
20" fire eel, and Dib the Fahaka

55g freshwater tank w\ Magnum 330 filter
Tigger the South American Puffer

5.5g nano saltwater tank

I've never been able to keep a ropefish inside my tank.

I suppose I should be looking for a better way to secure my tank then because right now, if my eel wanted to, he could get out. I rarely see him swimming though, as he mainly hangs out in the PVC pipe, but when he reaches his adult size, I'm sure it won't be difficult for him to get out.

Arrgh I'm freaking out. I could hardly sleep last night. (I remember seeing 2:45 on the clock, and I still tossed and turned so much I got super tangled in blankets and had to get OUT of bed to fix.) I also got woke up at 7 by the door closing when the boyfriend went to work - and now can't sleep.

GUESS who got scheduled WEDNESDAY (the day I'm SUPPOSED to pick up my tank?!)
Headed in to see if I can find a replacement...

Looks like only 2 possibilities...
Hopefully, Susan will work for me - and if she wants I'll let her have it... if she wants me to work sat or sun for her, I'll do that (only 2 days I have off...) - Otherwise, my dad said he'd take my hours (we work together) and I'd have to find someone else to take me, which probably means I'd have to find ANOTHER person that has a truck; maybe cousin Jon?

I'll start making calls at 9.

Yes :D

I called my cousin, and he said he'd do it - to call him Monday or Tuesday to iron out all the details. Then, Susan called me back, and said she'd work my Wednesday, so now dad won't have to work my hours - SOOO... I will have My dad, (Maybe cousin will ride along if he still wants to come help) and maybe my sis, and my daughter... in an extended cab truck LOL... I knew I could get it to work out, but I freaked out SO bad all night, tossed and turned, and all worked up...

Now just tired, but ZEN!

Hopefully I can talk my cousin into riding along still - or driving (so the truck we use is local, no need to go 20-30 min out of the way to borrow one) and extra hands to help!
