nocturnal wouldnt be bad for me, I get home from work at 2am. To many choices lol

Turgidus are pretty hard to come by.. well out here anyways, I like the blue spots on her, very pretty

I have been eying a turdy for a few weeks--

My main concern is her eating habits, right now they feed her goldfish and I am concerned that she would not eat other foods..

They want $30 and there is no guarantee...

Since you have one----

what are you feeding her?

I definitely would not feed her feeders!

I feed my little girl some live black worm, frozen mysis shrimp, raw market prawn and live crayfish, for now.
I am still looking to pick up the "seafood melody" at a local store which contains raw frozen seafood such as squid, scallops, prawn, crab etc,etc. I tried to feed her a snail, she ate half of it.

Even if that puffer were a piscivore, goldfish are the worst feeders you can give!!!

What is worse she needs to go on a diet!

When I first saw her I decided not to buy because she had some torn up fins--

Then I went to see her the other day-she looks healthy..but she is a bit of a rolly polly

They put like 10 goldfish in at a time and just let her eat untill they are gone

I am all for fat poofs...but If I got her, I would call Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers

The sad part about that is those goldfish are going to end up killing that puffer. I think you should get her purplecandle and get her eating something healthy because it's only a matter of time before those goldfish are going to cause her to die prematurely, which I think is very sad.

First of all, she's not a piscivore and shouldn't be eating fish to begin with, and secondly, goldfish are the worst kinds of fish you can feed. I feel very sorry for this puffer.

Actually the hunter lurker species ARE piscivores. But they generally hunt down far healthier fish in the wild, like minnows. Not fatty, disease laden feeder fish. They also eat snails, shrimp, etc, but they are some of the only true piscivores in the puffer family.

I will raise some doubts though.. I don't think this is a turgidus. The snout is too long, the eyespot too dark. It is notoriously hard to tell the target species apart, and some people will never agree.. but I will say I do NOT think that is the same species as what I have.

Corvus? You out there buddy?

I didn't realise that turgidus were considered piscivores, although I know some puffers will eat fish even with not being true piscivores. See, learn something every day!

That's why they are hunter/lurkers.. they wait until something swims above them.. or crawls by.. whichever comes first!

so, if she will eat a live goldfish, then she will eat a minnow..perhaps even thawed silversides?

Unfortunately I only have bad pics of the supposed turdy I am wanting...from several weeks ago..she is much fatter now..and lighter in color

I think the eyespot is quite big for a turgidus. If you look at the original specimens the eyespot of the adults is not much larger than the other spots, and in fact this is a character, which was used to define the species. I'd rather vote for M. cochinchinensis right now. Let's see how the eyespot develops with time. If it blends somewhat in with the other spots I will have to change my opinion.

so are all the target species piscavores i thought it was only the lukers
