Um??? well I might have to thing about re-homing the KOI and Comet at some point then, I like the fancy tails to much to get rid of them, We will be moving
sooner then we thought, maybe by then, i will be in a better state of mind to setup up another tank?, I thought by getting some gold fish I would lower my stress, it appears I am adding to it gheesh!

Oh well, I think for now they are fine, if I see to much pushing they will have to go. My girls like the fancy tails best, the comet and KOI were for me LOL!

You'll be fine up to the point where the comet reaches 6" and the koi 8". Then they would need a re-home. Preferably, a pond. At the 8"+ mark in a tank the koi not only endangers the other fish but itself also. My guesstimate is just a little under a year.

I'm not too keen on the comet, but the koi I love (plant eating devil that it is). VERY smart fish. We got the comet simply to keep the Koi company. It was a little depressed being solo after we moved the fancies out so we got it a "friend".

If you do the pond thing for the kio, it should be toilet bowl shaped with the deepest part a couple feet below the frost line. Our frost line is about 6' here in Bancroft so the pond here should be at least 8'. In your area you may even get away with a 4' deep pond (child caution of course). Given the right quality of life, that Kio may even out live you and your grand children will get to enjoy it

Well i am giving away a small secret here, but if we get a house with a basment, i was planning on making a raised Pond/Tank it will be half pond and half glass so you can see fish while sitting on the couch, but are able to walk over and peer over the side to see them from above, I have been doing some research and the tank it self will cost me 4-5K but it will be between 1000-1500 Gals I have been thinking about it for some time now. My KOI would be right
at home in a setup like that

Maybe a little research but 6x6 hemlock or cedar (cedar is expensive), tongue in groove (or double) with pond liner would also work. No glass viewing but much cheaper. A corner unit rock formation with pond liner would also work at a fraction of the cost. With flex pond liner you get the added benefit of making your own shapes. Round is always better than square, better circulation and better fish movement.

One problem I have with my tank is evap ... a big problem that is causing a mold outbreak from condensation on all my pipes. Please keep that in mind if and when you decide to build.

I was thinking of doing a river theme, nice and long, but if a corner tank would be better I can look into it, I am no where close to being able to do it yet, I'm in the thinking about it stage LOL!, but it is something I would like to build myself, I am thinking a nice rock foundation, with some glass to make up the top half, with a water fall in back and being in the corner makes sense as for filtration I haven't even got to that point yet, but from what I have looked at, there are some pretty impressive systems out there, I will not be scare to spend the money when the time comes, this is something I want to make look awesome, I was thinking the center piece of this would be a MBU puffer. So I will need a nice setup and a clean setup. Seems a MBU is the only puffer to tolerate other fish with it, for a time anyways. But even if I do not get a MBU, this will make an amazing tank.

just pick one or 2 really beautiful fish. I mean really beautiful. Do your research... My favs were the Doitsu and Asagi variations. I had a Doitsu once and it was large and VERY strong by koi standards. Easily doubling the length and girth of the fancy koi I had at the same age. I have yet to find an Asagi but if I do you know I'm in the game again

I know what you mean, there are some very nice KOI, But they are super pricy. I got mine for 9 bux, so I consider myself lucky, hes a handsome little guy

meanwhile he's in a 90 Gal 48X18X24, thats not a small tank by any means

Hey All,

Sorry I have been away for a bit, but I have some not so good news, Seems my Duaghter Sophia does in fact have cancer, its a rare form, but the good news its a very treatable type, We are hoping they can just do cymo and not radiation, We are waitng on results of a second MRI and a spinal tap they did on
Thrus, we should know something by tues/weds, They have been consulting with sick kids in Toronto, we are not sure yet, but we may need to move to Toronto for a bit while she is doing her treatments, to say we are stressed is an undersatment, and me being out of work for over a year is not helping???
IDK what to say, its been hard, we are positive, but very angry, alot of mixed emotions. I have re-homed my fish, and sold my bulldog, I am on the brink of a crash, I needed to get rid of some stress.

My family would appricate some good thoughts and prayers?? I keep praying this is a bad dream and any minute i am gonna wake up for it.

Anyways, i thought you all would like an update.

I'm sorry that it is cancer, although if it's very treatable - that is a definite bonus.
I know you are in Canada, and I'm not sure how the whole medical bill thing works up there (free treatment, right? At least I hope!) so medical bills aren't a worry?? I am sending lots of prayers and good thoughts your way. Thanks for the update, I'm sure that you are feeling pretty torn right now... I don't know how I'd be able to get out and look for a job that would keep me away from home knowing my baby is sick... I'd definitely want to be home with her. Times get hard, you gotta do what you gotta do - but in the end it will all work out. Just keep your heads up and do whatever you think is right. God, family and friends will always be there for you. Is there any possible way to get local stores or churches to help raise money to help you? I know that in some situations some of our local stores here give out grants (sums of money) to help those in need. Also, banks, stores, and other businesses will allow people to put out jars to collect money - I see them all the time. Usually with a picture of the person it is for, and an explanation of why the collection is held. There are also community programs here that 'interview' people that need help, and they try to help whomever they can - they get so many funds per month, and they try to help people in need.

I'm sure you guys are already looking into any possible resources you have, just trying to give out ideas - then again IDK how things are in Canada, I really am praying my heart out, and even talked to my grandmother; she's quite touched and has added you into her Church's prayer chain... even before tonight's update.

Really hoping the best for you guys, and can't wait to hear when she's turned onto Remission Highway.
