On a tank with a large skimmer and live rock you do not need a filter (sponge, canister etc.). I dont know how many times it needs to be said on here. Do some research in to modern reef keeping before commenting.

A canister filter is going to be a waste of $ and a nitrate factory.

Also a HOB fuge such as a modded AC filter will do nothing in terms of nutrient reduction, the only benefit will be micro fauna growth.

JoseDepacos, sounds like you on a good path. Depending on how the octopus is designed, it might have a chamber that you could put a bag of carbon and phosphate remover in. Octo keeps changing models so often I forget which do and dont... If it doesn't have room for that considering running a small HOB filter with only carbon and/or phosphate remover when needed, and remove the filter when not using GFO/GAC

The Octopus skimmer is rated @ 90 gallons, has a place for media, has a built in surface skimmer and from what I have gathered, is easily one of the best HoB skimmers one can purchase. I'm thinking two pumps for circulation- one like the Koralia mentioned and one with an oscillating output to sweep back and forth across the tank. Too much? Would one be sufficient in this small tank?

In terms of wave making there are not that many good cheap options. I would say a closed loop on a SCWD might be one of the cheapest, most effective and non-tank-cluttering. You should be fine with just a koralia or two. Look around and see what works best for yourself, there are many ways to do it, but the price can skyrocket. If you are not going to grow coral, its really wasted $.

They have several Koralia pumps on clearence at my local Pet Supplies Plus. I'll have to take a closer look at what they have.

Thats because of the new Evolutions. I got 3 Koralia 4s for under $100. They are great deals.

Probably lots of used ones FS in the Used Equip forum at Reef Central.
